Infuence national policy on home energy

The government knows that it has to work through community groups to reduce emissions from existing houses but they don't have any idea how to do it. Their current consultation on Heat and Energy Saving focuses a lot on the power of local communities to deliver change.

Brixton Transition Town Buildings and Energy Group is coordinating a response to the consultation. This consultation is the opportunity to have a big influence on national policy. We have talked to the Government and they are ver… Continue

Hi Chris, excellent presentation on Tuesday.
My eco team is talking about energy reduction on Monday and I am looking for information. Is there a website with best practices for building a green extension? It would be quite handy to create a list of tradespeople - architects, builders, draughtproofing experts, etc who are up to date with eco technology. Do you know of anyone who might be doing that?
thanks,
Therese

Disappointing that we didn't get it, but heartening that so many people were up for it. Is there any way that we could strike up some sort of economy of scale deal with a solar panel company - big discounts in exchange for a 550-strong order? Or is that too small beer? I'd be interested. Let me know if any other bid possibilities come up

Hi Chris
Any feedback yet on the Solar Panel bid? If not yet, when's the decision date?
Hope all's well, Nick

Hi Chris

I've just managed to delete my previous message to you which you therefore may not have seen! I have managed to pull off a meeting with a major trade union with buildings in the Lambeth area at which I want to persuade them to commit to greening their buildings, which are currently leaking emissions bythe carbon tonne. Would you be interested in coming along to the first meeting? I am hoping initially to persuade them to commit to a survey to tell them what would be involved, cost etc if they went ahead, as well as to persuade them of the benefits to them of being seen to be amongst the first to act and set an example! Like many of the larger unions they have a fair number of buildings that could be greened. If you could contact me that would be great - even if you don't feel it's appropriate for your group but have some contacts for me that would be marvellous, thanks. Belinda

Yes Chris. We are very interested in Gresham Road. We have a terrace of victorian property 47-67 and they are embarrasingly difficult to reduce the energy used without living in 4 layers of clothes. Our house of 4 floor leaseholds are looking at replacement windows, but I am sure if we all got them done together it would be an advantage. Also some of our roofs do not have insulation and our hall and external lighting is not on sensor or timed switches.
Would love to get involved with the solar panels. We are getting a group together.

Hi Chris!
Would you be able to add a picture/image for your clearout event in October?
It would be really great, and hopefully encourage more people to have a look at it (and therefore attend!). All you need to do is go to your event page, select 'Edit Event' and then 'Event image'. Give me a shout if it's not clear.
Thanks! Nick
PS: Saw you there last night at Brixton £, but didn't get the chance to catch up - sorry! Next time!!!
